About St. Maximilian

Compassionate care, lasting recovery.

St. Maximilian Wellness and Medical Centre is a health and rehabilitation facility in Nyeri dedicated to addiction treatment, mental-health support, and community wellness — restoring hope, dignity, and purpose to individuals and families.

Why we exist

Too many families in Kenya face addiction in private — unsure where to turn, afraid of judgement, and often a long way from care that treats them with respect. St. Maximilian was founded to change that.

Our name honours St. Maximilian Kolbe, widely remembered as a patron of people battling addiction — a daily reminder of the dignity we owe every person who walks through our doors.

We opened in Ruring'u, Nyeri, in 2026 — a private facility dedicated to professional, evidence-based treatment for alcohol and substance use disorders and other behavioural health challenges, registered in Kenya as St. Maximilian Wellness and Medical Centre Ltd.

Our commitment is simple. From your first call, you are met by a real person who listens. From your first day, you are met with privacy, skilled care, and the steady belief that recovery is possible.

Newly opened · registered under the Companies Act, 2015 · Ruring'u, Nyeri

We pledge to provide safe, ethical and personalised care that promotes healing, wellness and recovery — treating every individual with dignity, respect and compassion, regardless of their background or circumstances. Together, we will inspire hope, restore lives and strengthen the health and well-being of everyone in our care.
Isaac Mwaniki · Executive Centre Director

What we stand for

Seven commitments, written into how the centre runs — the reasons a worried family can trust us with someone they love.

  • Compassion

Care with empathy, respect, and understanding for every person who seeks help.

  • Integrity

Honesty, transparency, and accountability in every part of our service.

  • Professionalism

The highest standards of clinical practice, competence, and service delivery.

  • Confidentiality

We protect the privacy and dignity of every client — from the first call onward.

  • Excellence

Continuous improvement and quality in every aspect of our work.

  • Recovery

We believe recovery is possible, and we back every client toward a healthy, productive life.

  • Respect

We value diversity, human dignity, and the rights of every individual.

How we care

Care at St. Maximilian is clinical and structured, but it is never cold. The way we work is designed to make a frightening step feel safe.

  1. We begin by listening

Every journey starts with a comprehensive, confidential assessment — medical, psychological, and social — understanding the person, not just the addiction.

  2. A plan made for one person

Within 72 hours of admission, every client has an individualised treatment plan — clear goals, planned care, and named staff responsible for it.

  3. A team around you

A multidisciplinary team — doctor, psychiatric nurse, and counsellors — reviews every client's progress together each week, so care stays joined-up.

  4. The whole person, not just the illness

Treatment addresses body, mind, relationships, and spirit — medical care, psychotherapy, family work, and a steady daily rhythm.

  5. Support that lasts beyond discharge

Aftercare follows you home, with planned check-ins at one week, one month, and three, six, and twelve months after treatment ends.

The people who care for you

St. Maximilian is led by a multidisciplinary clinical team — medical oversight, psychiatric nursing, and professional counselling working together. And the team is still growing: an occupational therapist, social worker, and resident counsellor are joining as the centre expands.

  • Isaac Mwaniki

    Executive Centre Director

Leads the centre day to day and carries its promise — compassionate care, delivered with integrity and accountability.

  • Dr. Michael Wanjohi

    Medical Director

Provides medical and clinical oversight, from admission assessments through detoxification and medication management.

  • Joy Nyaga

    Psychiatric Nurse

Brings psychiatric nursing care to every stage of treatment, keeping each person safe, monitored, and supported.

  • Irene Gathoni

    Counsellor

Walks with clients through individual and group counselling — recovery motivation, relapse prevention, and honest conversation.

  • Sandra Wangari

    Counsellor

Supports clients and their families through counselling, addiction education, and planning the road back home.

A calm place to begin again

Where you recover matters. St. Maximilian sits in Ruring'u on the edge of Nyeri town, in Kenya's central highlands — settled, green, and quiet, with the Aberdares to one side and Mount Kenya to the other.

It is a place to step away from the noise of everyday life and focus, in safety and privacy, on getting well.
